What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a gentle, manual exfoliation. A sterile surgical blade is held at a shallow angle and stroked across the skin to remove the top layer of dead cells and the fine, soft facial hair often called peach fuzz.
The result is skin that looks brighter and feels smoother, and make-up that sits more evenly. At Glow By Yaz in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, dermaplaning is offered as a 40-minute luxury dermaplane facial, and is also used as a first step in several of our other treatments.
What is included in the luxury dermaplane
Our luxury dermaplane includes:
- a double cleanse
- extractions where needed
- dermaplaning
- a sheet mask
- an ice facial massage
- a finishing serum and SPF
It is a relaxing treatment with no downtime, which makes it popular before events, holidays and photographs.
Who it is for
- dull skin that needs a lift
- visible peach fuzz that catches make-up
- rough or dry patches
- anyone who wants a gentle facial with no downtime
Dermaplaning is not carried out over active, inflamed breakouts. If breakouts are your main concern, see our acne treatment for blemish-prone skin.
Dermaplaning myths
“The hair will grow back thicker or darker.” It will not. Fine vellus hair regrows at the same rate and with the same soft texture, because cutting a hair does not change the follicle beneath it. Regrowth can feel slightly different at first simply because the tip is blunt rather than tapered.
“It is the same as shaving.” The idea is similar, but dermaplaning is carried out by a trained practitioner with a sterile blade on clean, prepared skin, and it removes dead skin as well as hair.
“It thins the skin.” Dermaplaning removes only dead surface cells. Your skin naturally replaces these.
Combining dermaplaning with peels
Removing dead skin and fine hair helps peels and serums reach the skin evenly, so dermaplaning is often paired with other treatments. It is part of our Axion microneedling and glass-skin hydra facial, and can be followed by a mesoestetic Mesopeel when Yaz feels it suits your skin.
Aftercare
Your skin may look slightly pink for an hour or two. For the next 24 to 48 hours:
- avoid make-up for the rest of the day if you can
- skip exfoliants, retinoids and acids
- avoid saunas, steam rooms and swimming pools
- wear SPF 30 or higher, as fresh skin is more sensitive to the sun
Most people repeat dermaplaning every four to six weeks, in line with the skin’s natural renewal cycle.
