What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel applies a carefully formulated solution of acids and active ingredients to loosen and remove dead surface cells, encouraging fresher skin to come through. At Glow By Yaz in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, we use mesoestetic’s professional Mesopeel range.
Professional peels are different from the exfoliating products you buy in shops: they are stronger, applied for a controlled time and neutralised or removed by a trained practitioner, then followed by aftercare chosen for your skin.
The mesoestetic Mesopeel range
Mesopeels come in different formulations, each designed for a different concern. Yaz chooses the peel at your consultation, based on your skin type, tone and goals. Examples include:
- Melanostop Tranex, formulated for uneven skin tone and the appearance of pigmentation, including melasma
- peels for oily, blemish-prone skin, to help keep pores clear
- peels for dull, tired-looking skin and fine lines
For deeper or more stubborn pigmentation, Yaz may suggest Cosmelan instead. You can compare Mesopeels with Cosmelan and BioRePeel.
Peel strength explained
Peels are often described as superficial, medium or deep, depending on how far into the skin they work. The Mesopeels we use are superficial to light peels: they work on the upper layers of the skin, with little or modest downtime, and build results gradually over a course.
A stronger peel is not automatically a better one. Especially for darker skin tones and pigmentation-prone skin, a gentler peel repeated over a course is usually the lower-risk route.
What happens on the day
Yaz cleanses and preps your skin, protects sensitive areas such as the corners of the nose and lips, then applies the peel in even layers. You may feel warmth, tingling or itching for a few minutes. The peel is then neutralised or removed as the protocol requires, and finished with soothing products and SPF.
Allow about 45 minutes. You will leave with written aftercare instructions.
To confirm with Yaz: appointment lengthDowntime and aftercare
- Days 1 to 2Skin may look slightly pink and feel tight. Use only gentle products and avoid make-up for the rest of the day.
- Days 2 to 5Light flaking is common, usually around the mouth and nose. Do not pick; keep the skin moisturised.
- Throughout the courseWear SPF 30 or higher every day, avoid sunbeds and strong sun, and pause retinoids and exfoliants as Yaz advises.
Courses of six peels
Peels are planned as a course. Our course of six Mesopeels is spaced about 10 to 14 days apart, with half of the course price paid at your first visit and the other half at your last. Yaz reviews your skin at each appointment and adjusts the peel if needed.
Individual results vary. Pigmentation, in particular, needs ongoing SPF and maintenance after the course.
