What is Cosmelan?
Cosmelan is a professional depigmentation method developed by mesoestetic, the Spanish skincare laboratory. At Glow By Yaz in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, it is offered as a supervised programme rather than a one-off peel.
It works in two phases. First, Yaz applies the Cosmelan 1 mask in clinic. You go home wearing it and remove it after the number of hours Yaz sets for your skin. Second, you continue with the Cosmelan 2 home-care cream and a simple aftercare routine for the months that follow. Both phases matter: the in-clinic mask starts the process, and consistent home care and daily SPF help maintain it.
Who it is for
Cosmelan is chosen for people whose main concern is pigmentation that has not responded to everyday skincare. At consultation, Yaz may suggest it for:
- the appearance of melasma, including hormonal pigmentation on the cheeks, forehead and upper lip
- sun spots and uneven skin tone from past sun exposure
- marks left behind after breakouts (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
It is used across a wide range of skin tones, including darker skin. If another option suits you better, such as a course of Mesopeel Melanostop Tranex peels or BioRePeel, Yaz will explain why. You can also compare Cosmelan with Mesopeels and BioRePeel.
Your treatment with Yaz
Every programme begins with a £20 skin consultation, in clinic or by video. Yaz looks closely at the type and depth of your pigmentation, and asks about your health, medication, contraception, sun exposure and skincare. She explains the downtime honestly, so you can choose a start date that suits your diary.
If Cosmelan is right for you, you will receive a prep pack to use at home for a short period before your mask appointment. Preparing the skin helps it tolerate the treatment and lets Yaz check how it responds.
What happens on the day
Your appointment takes place in our private treatment room at 21 Wharfside, Fenny Stratford. Yaz cleanses and prepares your skin, then applies the Cosmelan 1 mask evenly over the treatment area. You will be given clear written instructions on when and how to remove it at home, and what to use afterwards.
The mask is a distinctive earthy colour, so most people plan to go straight home afterwards. Bring a scarf or hat if you would like to feel less conspicuous on the way.
Downtime and aftercare, week by week
Everyone's skin responds differently, and Yaz will tailor your instructions. As a guide:
- Days 1 to 3Redness, warmth and tightness are common. Use only the aftercare products in your pack and avoid make-up until Yaz advises.
- Days 3 to 10Dryness and fine peeling usually follow. Let the skin shed naturally; do not pick or exfoliate. Keep it well moisturised.
- Weeks 2 to 4The skin settles and you begin the Cosmelan 2 home-care cream as directed. Your three complimentary LED sessions are scheduled during this period.
- Months 2 to 6Continue home care and daily broad-spectrum SPF, with review appointments so Yaz can adjust your routine.
Daily high-protection SPF is essential throughout and afterwards. Sun exposure is one of the main reasons pigmentation returns.
The 6-month programme and results timeline
Changes appear gradually over the weeks after treatment rather than overnight. For clients who would like more structured support, a 6-month Cosmelan programme is also listed on Booksy.

Individual results vary. Melasma in particular is a long-term condition: Cosmelan can help reduce its appearance, but it can return, especially with sun exposure or hormonal changes, so ongoing maintenance is part of the plan.
